
Over the past 20 years, cruiseships calling Lerwick - a founder member of Cruise Europe - have changed name and changed company, sometimes three times.
For example in 1996 and 1999 Cunard Line’s Royal Viking Sun called. In 2000 the same ship called as Seabourn Sun and since then she has called as Prinsendam in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011.
Vistafjord (pictured) called in the early nineties and returned as Saga Ruby in 2005. Fedor Dostoevskiy (pictured) visited also in the early nineties, returning as Astor in 1996 and Royal Princess called 1997 returning as Artemis in 2009.
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Black Prince was a regular visitor, calling 17 times between 1992 and 2009. Before retiring after 43 years’ service, she called June 19 2009 and was given a Viking send off.
In 1991 the total gross tonnage of cruiseships calling was 180,509 (21 calls/4,559 passengers) whereas in 2011 that has grown to 1,211,514 (50/30,747).
