Leixoes calls up 9% in 2015

In 2015 Leixoes welcomed 85 calls and 78,500 passengers, an increase of 9% and 22% respectively over the same period 2014.

Last year was the best yet for the port which welcomed Grand Circle Cruise Line for the first time with Corinthian as well as newbuilding Mein Schiff 4 from TUI Cruises on its maiden voyage.

The recently opened Porto Cruise Terminal received 41 calls and the Passenger Station of Leca da Palmeira 44 calls. Despite having welcomed fewer vessels, the new Porto Cruise Terminal was visited by nearly 63,000 passengers accounting for 80% of the total.

As in previous years, May and September were the busiest months. Cruise activity at Leixoes has been sustainably growing year by year.

The work carried out by the port authority together with stakeholders in the promoting Leixoes continues with 90 calls and 90,000 passengers expected this year. This includes four inaugural calls and one new cruise company.
