Klaksvik in the Faroe Islands has two calls booked in 2011, both from Saga Cruises’ Saga Ruby. This year the port received one call and 200 passengers from Ocean Nova on charter to Albatros Travel.
A relative newcomer to the industry, Meinhard Petersen, harbour master Port of Klaksvik, says: “We have only started three years ago to market for cruise vessels, so it is slowly coming.”
There are three quay possibilities: North Harbour with a length of 317m and depth of 12m; Nordborg 166m/8m, and Kosin 270m/8m. The former is 20 minutes’ walk from the centre with Nordborg being the closest at five minutes followed by Kosin at 10 minutes.
The maximum size of ship that can be accommodated alongside is 340m length and 11m depth according to Mr Petersen. There is also anchorage with the turning basin being 600m diameter. There is no air draught restriction. There are wastewater and recycling facilities available at the port.
