Klaipeda appointed a “new and more experienced independent company in 2009 to guard the cruise terminal” according to Henry Shapkin, agency department manager SC Klaipeda Laivu Remontas (operators of Klaipeda Cruise Terminal).
With 40,520 passengers expected in 2010 as compared with 31,348 last year, there will be plenty of opportunity to refine seamless transfers from ship to shore and vice versa.
While the majority of calls are transit, Sea Cloud Cruises’ Sea Cloud makes two turnaround calls this year and last. A number of ships will be calling Klaipeda for the first time this year including Costa Magica, Mein Schiff, Amadea, Europa and Mona Lisa.
Ships of up to 300m length, 45m beam and 8.5m draught can dock at one of two quays. The cruise terminal was completed in 2003 but is now part of a waterside development which integrates the city centre.
