This year Spirit of Oceanus called Kalmar for the first time. The Swedish port had two calls in 2009 and two this year, carrying 290 and 320 passengers respectively.
Next year Kalmar has three calls, two from Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Braemar (pictured) which last called Kalmar in 2007.
The port’s first cruise call was in 1975. Since then there have been 211 calls in total.
Quay no 3 is dedicated to cruiseships and has a length of 200m and depth of 7.7m. It is three minutes walk from the city centre. There is a 36m airdraught northbound but no restriction southbound says Carl-Johan Nordheim of Kalman Hamn.
At least 2,000 passengers can be handled at one time.
There is also good and safe anchorage available just south of the Swedish port.
