Hundested calls receive a Viking welcome

The sun shone on the three calls made to Hundested in 2016. The newcomer to Cruise Europe made sure the passengers received a special welcome with the ships - Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Braemar on two calls and Saga Pearl II on a maiden visit - being met by a large Viking ship to guide them to the quay.

On arrival fighting and jeering Vikings received the passengers who were each given a ‘Welcome to Hundested’ folder and extra information from the tourist organisation inside the 100m2 tent.

Although Hundested is walker-friendly, free shuttle buses were provided taking passengers to the port centre, the city and the main attractions including Greenland explorer Knud Rasmussen's house. Shore excursions included a tour through the landscape of North Sealand to Frederiksborg Castle, Hamlet’s castle Kronborg and a walk in Hundested with tasting of local dishes.

“No doubt that the good feedback from both passengers and cruiseline plus the investment in a new quay is the reason that we have received requests to call in 2017 and 2018. But nothing is confirmed yet,” commented Birgitte Bergman, director VisitNorthsealand.

*The new pier can accommodate cruiseships up to 250m in length and 8m draught. Tug, waste handling, bunkering and provisioning are available. It is a maximum of 100m from the gangway to the shuttle buses.
