Ships calling Hernesaari, Helsinki, this season will be able to discharge black and grey water at 80-100m3 per hour as originally promised due to the pipeline being checked and straightened, according to Eeva Hietanen, communications & cruise development, Port of Helsinki. In 2009 the port ran into some difficulties with throughput.
There are in fact black and grey water discharge facilities at all three of the cruiseship berths. The port is capable of handling the largest cruiseship, Royal Caribbean International's Oasis of the Seas, at Berth LMA which has a length of 400m and a depth of 12m with a fairway depth of 10.8m. Berth LHB has a length of 320m, a depth at quay of 9m and a fairway depth of 8.9m wile Quay LHC has a length of 355m, a depth of 9.8m and a fairway depth of 8.9m
Helsinki is expecting 19 turnaround calls and 246 transit calls this year which includes Celebrity Eclipse and Disney Magic. In 2009 there were 23 turnaround calls with 42,883 passengers and 263 calls with 320,000 passengers.
