Hefty port expansion progresses

Since the kick-off of the land reclamation in February 2017, the expansion project of the Port of Tórshavn has been steadily progressing. The expansion project is set to be completed late 2020, and will add three new quaysides totalling almost 900 metres with a guaranteed depth of minimum 15 metres. This will be a significant improvement of the berthing facilities in the Faroese Capital, where there currently are limitations in the weekends due to cargo ships arriving and departing Fridays to Sundays.
After the expansion, it will not be necessary for the cruise vessels to share berths with containerships. This will increase the competitiveness of Tórshavn, as more berths will be available. Additionally this will add value to the brand that the Faroes already are experiencing, where general tourism is booming with guests astounded by the beauty of the Faroes.
