Greenock, UK, has a cruiseship in port every day this week making it the busiest week of the season. There are 11 ships calling for the first time this year including Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Boudicca, Cunard Line’s Queen Victoria, Silversea Cruises’ Silver Cloud, AIDAaura, Norwegian Sun and Saga Ruby.
Greenock Ocean Cruise Terminal has both turnaround and transit calls. This year there are 14 turnaround and 21 transit calls compared to 10 and 19 respectively in 2009. Passenger numbers for turnarounds are expected to be 13,197 this year compared to 7,450 in 2009 and for transit 39,132 compared with 33,589 respectively.
The quay has a length of 345m and a minimum depth of 12.6m. It is used for both cruise and cargo ships and is about five minutes walk from the town centre and 35 minutes drive from Glasgow. Any size of cruiseship can be accommodated.
The dedicated passenger terminal includes tourist information, internet access, toilets, a cafe and phones. A major refurbishment was completed in 2009 with the official opening taking place on July 1 2009 with the inaugural call of Crown Princess, says Joanne Thomson, marketing assistant Clydeport Operations.
Waste facilities are available for garbage, hazardous waste, bilge and black and grey water.
