Edinburgh pontoon doubles numbers

A new three-berth tender pontoon with fully-accessible gangway has been installed in Newhaven, Edinburgh, where calls have more than doubled from six last year (including one from P&O Cruises’ Britannia) to 14 this year and next.

A new gangway arrangement is helping to develop the new anchorage and the nearby infrastructure has also been improved.

The associated CruiseForth initiative is promoting a wider range of visitor options for shore excursions, whilst maintaining the traditional base. In 2017 the Scottish Enterprise Destination Development Fund provided a two-year grant of £89,000 (€101,180) aimed at increasing awareness of the diversity of excursion options in and around Edinburgh, highlighting with many more local experiences.

The investment will also see the provision of a 'gateway' app to bridge the gap between the port and the destination. Improving the connecting transport experiences at each of the arrival points for Edinburgh is a further goal of the project.
