Proposals for a 240m-long deepwater berth costing £11m (€12.6m) at Victoria Pier in Douglas have been approved by the Isle of Man parliament. The facility will accommodate cruiseships and windfarm support vessels.

Currently, visiting cruise vessels must anchor in Douglas Bay and transport passengers to shore by tender. The proposals are aimed at ensuring "island facilities are robust, modern and practical for both industry and leisure," the government said.

The strategy outlines a three-year order of works for Douglas harbour, set out for projects in seven different areas, with a total cost of £80.37m. Further phases of the plan could bring a new marina to Port St Mary, a ‘marine service centre’ to Ramsey and a second deepwater port to Port Erin. Peel could also see further development of its marina facilities.
