In June this year Copenhagen Malmo Port experienced its busiest day in its cruising history when 25,000 passengers and 8,000 crew members visited.

Captain Carmine Maddaloni from Costa Cruises’ Costa Favolosa commented: “All the cruises are fully booked until the end of September. There are good facilities for the ship. They are well organised regarding the terminal, the condition for the arrival of the passengers, well organised for the taxis, buses, different opportunities to reach the city centre.”

Next year promises to be a good one with 850,000 passengers visiting,100,000 more than this year. With 55 ships with more than 4,000 passengers calling next year, CMP is considering building a new terminal in the next three to four years.

It is estimated that the cruise industry generates around 4,000 jobs (primarily seasonal employment) and contributes total revenues of DKK1.3bn (€0.17bn) to the Greater Copenhagen economy. The 100,000-plus extra passengers expected in 2017 will generate additional revenues for the tourism industry of an estimated DKK200-225m.
