Clydeport, operators of Greenock Ocean Terminal, has launched a new campaign aimed at supporting the future growth of the port facility which will welcome 35 vessels and 50,000+ visitors to Scotland this year.
The new “Cruise Glasgow” website (www.cruiseglasgow.com) and brochures will provide both cruise lines and passengers with information about the Terminal and its facilities. The literature highlights the excursions and amenities available in the surrounding areas such as tours which can be taken from the Terminal.
It forms part of a fresh marketing drive being undertaken by Clydeport aimed at promoting the advantages of arriving in Scotland via Greenock and within close proximity of many world-famous tourist attractions in nearby cities and countryside.
Andrew Hemphill, General Manager for Greenock Ocean Terminal, said: “The website is a key tool in building on the high standards we have already set at the Terminal. By providing a clear and informative resource for customers and visitors to Greenock, we will continue to be a leading cruise port in the UK.”
David Jerome, Business Development Manager for Clydeport, added: “The cruise market is continuing to grow year on year, and our new marketing campaign will ensure that we continue to attract vessels to Greenock Ocean Terminal”.
Greenock Ocean Terminal is looking forward to welcoming 35 vessels and 53,837 passengers in 2011, including the visit of Cunard’s newest vessel, the Queen Elizabeth, on her maiden visit to Greenock.
Inverclyde Council Chief Executive John W Mundell said: "Clydeport have bucked the recent economic trend by growing their business and setting out a clear strategy for the future. We are working hard to regenerate Greenock town centre to provide a warm welcome to the thousands of visitors and crew members arriving on the cruise ships and we are happy to support the new marketing campaign for attracting more tourists to the Ocean Terminal at Greenock."
Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “Clydeport and Greenock Ocean Terminal are of strategic importance to Glasgow’s continuing development and the growth of the city’s economy, no more so than in the tourism sector.
“More than 50,000 cruise liner passengers and crew members will arrive into Greenock this year. Glasgow is easily accessible by rail and road from the Ocean Terminal, and many will want to explore the city’s world-class visitor attractions, internationally renowned shopping and great restaurants, which brings huge benefits in terms of tourism revenue and economic impact.
“Glasgow City Marketing Bureau works closely with Clydeport and is delighted to be supporting them through the development of their new Cruise Glasgow brochure. It is through this partnership approach that we will continue to ensure that Greenock Ocean Terminal is an attractive port of call for cruise lines as a leading leisure gateway and maximise local benefit opportunities.”
