Cherbourg receives first Japanese cruiseship

In April 2014 the French port of Cherbourg received its first Japanese cruiseship Asuka II which berthed on Quai de France during her world tour. She was one of seven newcomers and 32 calls during the year when 40,450 passengers and 17,302 crew visited.

The 70th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings in June related commemorative events resulted in the there being a week of consecutive cruise calls in Cherbourg. On June 6, the transatlantic cruise terminal was chosen as the site of a private party for Azamara Journey passengers.

Partial turnarounds took place on a number of vessels including 149 passengers joining Costa Classica, 55 guests Costa Pacifica and 361 Queen Mary 2 on a sailing to New York.

In September 10,091 passengers on Celebrity Constellation, Seabourn Legend and Costa Pacifica called on the same day.
