Cherbourg 2012 : Titanic Cities

The remembrances of the centenary of the Titanic’s wreck will take place in April, 2012. Five cities to which the Titanic's story is connected wished to collaborate in order to develop as much concerted actions of promotion and communication as possible by creating a Titanic Cities network.It concerns Liverpool, city of registration of the boat (head office of the cruise line White Star Line), Belfast, place of construction of the Titanic, Southampton, port of departure, Cherbourg, first stopover, Cobh, second and last stopover, Halifax, place where were buried most of the bodies found offshore and New York, destination of the Titanic.Within the framework of this partnership, the cities of the network Titanic Cities make a commitment to work in common on a vast program of remembrances for the demonstrations of centenary of the Titanic.We remind you that Cherbourg will be the only French partner, as well as it has been the only continental stopover of the Titanic. The city for this occasion will inaugurate in the Cité de la Mer, former Cherbourg Transatlantical “art deco” Terminal, nowadays restored and sheltering the museum of the Cité de la Mer, the exhibition dedicated to the Titanic "Emigration and Titanic " by creating a future space specially reserved for the famous ship! Indeed, the Cité de la Mer is getting ready to celebrate with dignity the centenary of the wreck of the Titanic. The famous passengers ship called in Cherbourg on April 10th, 1912, it should be back by April 10th, 2012. So let's get ready: several cruise line have already chosen to come to Cherbourg to discover this new space and all the demonstrations which will take place during 2012: year of the centenary of the Titanic’s wreck! Such as the new space reserved to Titanic at the Cité de la Mer or special guided visits on the site of anchoring of the titanic in Cherbourg’s harbour! Take your boarding card for Cherbourg and you will attend this magnificent show!
