Following the Cruise Europe conference in Riga 2014, chairman Michael McCarthy met with Eeva Hiettainen from Helsinki who was then chair of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) passenger committee.

Shortly afterward, CE became strongly involved in the ESPO Cruise and Ferry Port Network with certain CE members playing an active role. Sitting on committees, they brought their own particular knowledge and expertise to relevant committees that were engaged in preparing the Code of Practice for Cruise and Ferry Ports that was officially released in June.

McCarthy and managing director Jens Skrede, who also contributed to the Code, commented: "Cruise Europe has a wealth of experience among its members and we are delighted to have been able to contribute to this extremely important development. We look forward to continuing this vital cooperation with ESPO as the industry moves forward.”
