Klaksvik already has eight calls booked in 2013 which is an increase on the six calls this year and two in 2011. Meinhard Petersen, harbour manager Port of Klaksvik, says the port is a “growing destination for big ships”.
This year Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Eclipse, Royal Caribbean International’s Jewel of the Seas and Brilliance of the Seas and Holland America Line’s Prinsendam are all calling. Last year Saga Ruby and Marco Polo called. The first call to the Faroe Islands’ port was from Mona Lisa in 2005.
The first call of the year is on June 26 and the last September 11. Some of the ships come from the south, for example Southampton, and travel north to Ireland, Scotland, Shetland Isles, the Faroes and Iceland.
