Caen-Ouistreham offers personalised service

The Caen-Ouistreham cruise club includes the port authority, Greater Caen, tourist offices and chamber of commerce. These stakeholders are working together to improve the services offered to cruiseships.

Jerome Chauvet, cruise club advisor Caen-Ouistreham Normandy Cruise, commented: “We are different. We are a small port with personalised services for the cruise passengers.”

Situated between Le Havre and Cherbourg, Caen is only 30 minutes from the D-Day landing sites, Pegasus Bridge and close to the Bayeux Tapestry. Gastronomy is just one of its specialities.

Promotion of the port only started last year but it has already proved worthwhile. Saga Pearl II is visiting in August 2018 as a direct result of the marketing effort. This year there were four calls with seven booked in 2018. Ships up to 165m in length can be accommodated.

Caen has a population of 200,000 and is 15km (90 minutes) by canal to the sea and to Ouistreham. Passengers can disembark at the latter’s locks or come right up into town to berth at Gaston Lamy Quay.
