Bordeaux cleans up

Friday, December 1, 2017 - 10:58 by ce-press

Bordeaux, together with supplier Suez, have launched an innovative way to collect garbage from the ships. Using barge, garbage is collected directly from the river side of the ship. The garbage containers are then shipped a few hundred meters further upstream, where the waste processing plant is.

No more garbage trucks on the quays in the city centre, less noise for passengers and the local population, less pollution, easier and safer handling for the crew, no matter if it is low tide or high tide, and more security for pedestrians on the quays. The system, which has been implemented a few months ago works for both river and maritime cruises, is a real success.

Technical studies for a €100,000 budget to build a new cruiseship facility up to 340m in Pauillac are currently being undertaken. The target is to have the facility, which is one hour by bus from Bordeaux, ready for 2020.
