Bodo rebuilds quay to enable more city access

A bid is out to begin work on rebuilding the Town Square quay in Bodo after the summer, following a one-year delay to the project. The plan is for this to be completed in time for the 2015 cruise season which begins on May 25.

There are plans to invest in three Yokohama fenders which can be used both at the Town Square quay or at the Terminal quay for the largest ships. This year it was not possible to berth Boudicca, Albatross nor Discovery at the Town Square quay due to unusually low tides.

These ships have a draught of 7.3m to 7.7m and had instead to be berthed at Terminal quay. With the Yokohama fenders in place, all of these ships could have berthed in the city centre.

There are plans in the national government to invest NOK170m (E20.8m) in dredging the main terminal quay of 350m in length to 11.5m depth (now 8.2m) in order to accommodate the coastal tankers. Work is due to begin late 2015 for completion in time for the 2017 season.
