Bilbao’s third berth went into operation at the end of May. At 355m in length, 12m draught and covering 25,300m2 it represents a E16.5m investment for the Port Authority of Bilbao.

Plans are now underway for a terminal at the quay along the lines of the facility that came into service in February 2006. This has two berths, a land area of 6,750m2 and a 355m long jetty. This season also saw the arrival of a new gangway bringing the total number to four.

Calls to the Spanish port have increased significantly this year to a record 60 from 20 shipping companies. This year for the first time one of the largest cruiseships has called Bilbao, Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas. The port has also hosted eight cruiseship within the space of two days.
