Oceania Cruises’ Insignia and Radisson Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Voyager will be calling Bayonne for the first time this year.
In 2010 there will be 10 calls and 4,805 passengers compared to eight calls and 3,266 passengers in 2009. Last year all the calls were at anchorage, this year there will be two alongside.
The French port has a 130m long quay with a draught of 6m as well as anchorage at Hendaye and Saint Jean de Luz. There are wastewater discharge and recycling facilities at the quay.
Both the tendering berth and the quay are a short walk from the city centre. Any size of cruiseship can anchor at Hendaye bu there is a restriction of 180m length and 6m draught both at the quay and Saint Jean de Luz anchorage.
About 2,500 passengers can be handled at the port at one time according to Olivier Hautin, marketing director Port of Bayonne.
