Amsterdam quay is extended

Before the 2016 cruise season gets underway, the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam quay is being extended by 30m by adding a footbridge and two additional mooring posts (pictured). This will allow for more mooring combinations and will accommodate the ever-bigger ships coming to the Dutch city.

In terms of river cruise, the easternmost pier of the De Ruyterkade Oost mooring is being moved this year, making more space for ships of 110m and 135m. The Westelijk Stationseiland mooring facilities will also be improved by the removal of the two small jetties as well as piers 17 and 18 being renewed and positioned differently. At this location a new pier is being constructed where both 110m and 135m river cruise ships can moor. The project is expected to be finished by 2018.

In addition, every effort is being made to secure the necessary permits to open the planned new mooring facility at Westerdoksdijk. Lastly, shore power at various moorings will be extended.

From 2019 Amsterdam will be reached through the new sea lock at IJmuiden. Construction is due to begin this year. It will be large enough to accommodate the next generation of cruiseships and will be operational 24/7.
