A new service centre was opened at the Port of Akureyri in June. The 160m2 centre represents E500,000 investment and includes toilets, computers and a souvenir shop says Petur Olafsson, marketing manager at the port.
The Icelandic port is expecting 60 calls and 55,000 passengers this year compared to 58 calls and 47,500 passengers in 2009. There are eight ships calling for the first time in 2010 including TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff, Royal Caribbean International’s Jewel of the Seas, MSC Poesia and Compagnie du Ponant’s Le Boreal.
Ther are three quays: Oddeyrarbryggja is 200m long with a draught of 9.8m, Tangabryggja is 170m long and 9m draught and Torfunefsbryggja is 80m long and 6m draught.The maximum size of vessel that can come alongside is 340m in length and 9.8m draught.
Anchorage is also available. The turning basin is 1,000m. Waste water and recycling facilities are available at the port.
