The City of Aalborg in Denmark has got the financial go ahead to spend an extra DKr38m (E5.1m) on the regeneration of its waterfront.
With the Tall Ships race taking place in July, the plans are to finish a number of building projects including the Utzon Park, Nyhavnsgade, Slotspladsen (palace square) with temporary pavement to be replaced with granite in the autumn and Slotsgade quare south of the Utzon Centre.
The city will spend a total of DKr57.7m on the Aalborg waterfront and DKr10m on the Norresundby waterfront, explains Ole Brondum sales and marketing manager Port of Aalborg.
This year the port has three calls. Two from Albatros Travel’s Ocean Nova and one from Plantours’ Vistamar. In 2009, there were four calls with Thomson Spirit accounting for three.
