Editor's Note: April 27 through April 30, 2010, Amsterdam and IJmuiden will host Cruise Europe's AGM. Like cruise ship passengers visiting Amsterdam, Cruise Europe delegates will explore this wonderful city and its sister, IJmuiden, the seaside port for Amsterdam. Following is an interview with Dertje Meijer, president and ceo of the Port of Amsterdam, about the terminal and the city.
Amsterdam's Cruise Terminal

The Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is a modern facility within walking distance of the city center and with a hotel, Moevenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre, situated in the terminal.
The terminal features a promenade, built on the roof of the concourse and with good views of the water and beyond.
The terminal also features a few shops on the ground floor:
- Segway shop. These self-balancing, zero emissions, personal transportation vehicles can be rented to explore Amsterdam. Passengers and crew can even book guided city tours on Segway.
- Thinking of Holland. Be sure to visit the Dutch design souvenir shop ‘Thinking of Holland’ on the ground floor, and if you just can't wait to get into the city center to try some local Dutch food, there's a Subway sandwich shop with subs made to order.
For cruise passengers arriving at or departing from Amsterdam's Cruise Terminal, here are a few tips:
- You can board a canal cruise at the cruise terminal. Just ask for information in the terminal.
- A Holland Pass can be a good value for museum and culture lovers. Packages include canal cruises and bus tours.
- Cost of the train from the airport to the city center is only € 3.80 for second class ("tweede klas") ticket. Trains depart every 10 minutes from tracks 1 and 2. The journey to the Central Rail Station takes only about 10 minutes.
