Lerwick reflects the development of the cruise business over two decades

Over the past 20 years, cruiseships calling Lerwick - a founder member of Cruise Europe - have changed name and changed company, sometimes three times.

For example in 1996 and 1999 Cunard Line’s Royal Viking Sun called. In 2000 the same ship called as Seabourn Sun and since then she has called as Prinsendam in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011.

Quest opens Lerwick season

On May 4 adventure ship Noble Caledonia’s Quest will be the first ship of the 2011 season in Lerwick.

Lerwick harbour has had a big finish to the cruise season, with the largest vessel yet to bring visitors to the Shetland Islands in port this week.

Lerwick Port Authority is investing £85,000 (E102,817) in a new welcome ashore pavilion for meeting and greeting cruise passengers.
