Passenger numbers will be up 115% in Tyne next year

Tyne is expecting 38,000 passengers next year, up 115% on the 17,658 this year.
Calls number 20 in 2011, of which 11 were turnarounds. In 2012 there will be 19 transit and 18 turnaround calls. It is only five years since the port had its first turnaround call.
The World visited for the first time this June. Fred Olsen Cruise Lines and Cruise & Maritime Voyages both do turnarounds.
Nearby Newcastle United’s St James Park is hosting the Olympic football next year which could have a positive knock-on effect on Tyne.

Saga is spending three days in Hardanger Fjord next year for the first time.
Saga Sapphire will be calling Eidfjord, Odda and Loftus. Passengers will be taking part in the Hardangerfjord music festival, both public and private performances.
Ingrid Maderni, shore excursion executive Saga, said: “Norway is a very good destination for us. We can always sell the cruises and they are well received.” For 2013, she says there will be more calls to Hardangerfjord which is a “good region for us”.
Skjolden-Sognefjord is expecting 20 calls carrying 27,500 passengers in 2012 compared to 11 calls this year, according to Iren Vatne of Cruise Destination Skjolden-Sognefjord.
Being close to the town centre and welcoming to passengers are two of Helsingborg’s main assets according to a report commissioned by the Port of Helsingborg from the Tourism Research Institute of Sweden.
